I knew Nancy almost entirely through our frequent encounters at the U of S Arts Tower elevator, during her many years as a student and sessional instructor. I remember her for her friendly "hello" and her perceptive remarks and wry wit. It was always a pleasure to run into her. My condolences to her family & friends.

Oh dear Nancy! I am, sadly,  just learning about the latest journey you've embarked upon. You lit up room 117, the old S.A.S.S. office (Students's Art and Society Office) everytime you would walk in, not with words but with your smile. You were a wonderful friend! You listened to conversations and expressed your thoughts with honesty and earnestness even in humourous contexts. It was always a pleasure running into you on campus. You radiated passion and commitment to making a difference. Your journey and that of others helped endear me to this province and this community. I am sorry that running into you no longer will be possible, but happy that so many other lives were touched by you, including those of your husband, daughter and many others. Your smile will always remain on my mind Nancy.  Au revoir mon amie!

So sad to hear that this brilliant star is no longer a guiding light on Mother earth.   She will be shining her brilliance in the night sky for all to see.

It was a shock to hear of Nancy's passing.  Nancy was a friend when a friend was what I needed most and I shall never forget her for that. I am also thankful for the determined spirit that she had in all endeavours that she took on. 
May you find comfort in her memory and know that she touched so many lives.

As a colleague of Nancy at the Regina Campus of Sask Polytechnic, I enjoyed meeting her during our Zoom meetings. I was impressed by her kindness and gentle sense of humour. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

The news of the untimely passing of Nancy has shocked me. Nancy was a friend, colleague, and research partner, whom I have known for over a decade. A gentle, caring and generous person who was non-judgemental and honest. I cherish all the years I have known and worked with Nancy.  She was a true gift to the world. My sincere sympathies and thoughts remain with Blaine and Olivia, and the rest of Nancy’s family. Rest In Peace my friend!

I am devastated to hear of the passing of Nancy. As a committed educator and conscientious upholder of social justice, Nancy will be missed by many, most importantly people who have been victims of unjust incarceration. She contributed in important ways in international research and its dissemination, working with me while I was starting International Centre for Governance and Development at the U of S. A great loss for the students of social justice.

As I write this message with great saddnes, I also feel just how much of a joy and privilege  it was having Nancy in my life for  the past 28 years. And through 
knowing Nancy, Matthew, Sophia, Ava and I got the additional gift of having Blaine and Olivia in our lives also. 
Some of the joyful things was  being Nancy's Maid of Honour at her wedding to Blaine, then Matthew and I came to visit with her and Blaine  from England after we got married 5 years later. Then to top it all, Nancy and I both discoved at the same time  that we were both having baby girls!

Nancy was a beautiful, authentic, truthful, loyal and compassionate individual, with a left field sense of humour that I loved. 

She set out on a mission to better understand the world and to use this knowledge to contribute to the lives of marginallizedd people. She did this through her academic work and hands on approach as a long time member of  The Elizabeth Fry Society. 
Nancy was also  a gifted,  hard working and committed teacher.

I appreciate the fact that I got the chance to tell Nancy just how much I loved her and how much her friendship meant to me and my family  before she passed.

Matthew, Sophia, Ava and I send our love and condolences to Blaine, Olivia, Nancy's mum Lem, stepdad Ivan and all of Nancy's loving family left behind. 




I had the honour of serving on EFry Board with Nancy over six years.  Nancy considered herself a “lifer” in regard to her commitment to advocating for incarcerated women and her support for EFry. Her kind and gentle demeanor would often be cast aside when she spoke fiercely and passionately about social justice. Although it had a significant impact on Nancy, she did not let her battle with Wilson’s disease define her. Nancy will be remembered for her inner strength and genuine kindness – and how proud she was of her daughter Olivia.  My deepest condolences to Blaine and Olivia and rest of Nancy’s family.

Nancy was/is an absolutely beautiful human being, and it was an honour to work alongside her strength, determination and passion at the Elizabeth Fry Society. I will always remember the advice she provided me for teaching online too. My deepest condolences to her family, and her pride and joy, Olivia.


To Nancy's family-  I was heartbroken to hear the news of Nancy's passing.  I knew Nancy though her passionate and tireless work for social justice and the rights of incarcerated women. Hello, I worked at EFry for several years and had the privilege  of meeting Nancy there and seeing first hand her passion for social justice, and her advocacy for incarcerated women in Saskatchewan. I always felt lucky on the days when she would call the office and we would end up discussing different ideas and initiatives...I always appreciated hearing Nancy's perspective on things. From what she told me of her life it was an interesting one, and even from our brief chats I could tell how much she loved and valued her family. My deepest condolences.
