It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Nancy Poon announces her passing Saturday, January 8, 2022, after a long battle with Wilson’s Disease and a short battle with cancer. Nancy was born in Kerrobert, SK on Jan 31, 1961. She was predeceased by her father, Hip Poon, as well as her Uncle Sam and Aunt Kee Ngan Poon, and Uncle Tim and Aunt Yeung Wong. She leaves behind her loving husband Blaine Otteson, daughter Olivia Otteson, and mother and stepfather Lem and Ivan Halvorson, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, Aunts, Uncles, and in-laws. Nancy attended the University of Saskatchewan where she obtained her BA, MA, and PhD in Sociology, specializing in Criminology. She was a well-loved instructor over the course of several years through her work as a sessional lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the U of S and at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. She taught in the area of social justice and came to be more widely recognized as a tireless advocate for marginalized and incarcerated women. Nancy worked with the Elizabeth Fry Society for many years. Nancy loved her family time, especially her vacations to Phoenix to visit her mom and stepdad. She really appreciated that they lived in a warm climate, so she could escape the cold! Nancy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The Funeral Service for Nancy will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 11:00am at Mourning Glory - Acadia McKague’s (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon).
