It is with sadness that we announce that our mom, Monica Hyde, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, November 23, 2017. She was a resident patient of St. Ann’s Care Home for the past 8 years. Mom had been battling the disabling disease of dementia for over the past decade. She had always been a bright, intelligent and quick witted person who loved to render a scintillating quip, groan to a pun, laugh at a joke or be mentally challenged and revelled in pursuing the solution. Sadly over time with dementia she gradually lost that ability. Her last years were spent in the solitude of her mind but it was evident that wherever she was, it was indeed a happy place for her. She was revered and loved by the staff of St. Ann’s for her good charm and warm smile. Mom was born on February 4, 1928 and grew up on the family farm near Muenster, SK during the Great Depression. Those early hard lessons in life were never forgotten and she used those while being a homemaker for her family, instilling the ethics of hard work and perseverance. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Quirin & Agnes Loehr as well as siblings Philip, Margaret, Annie, Genevieve, Eugene and Gerald. She and dad, Allan, were married in February 1950 until he passed away in June 2012. During their 62 years together they lived in various locations in BC, in Saskatoon and as well 4 years in West Germany while dad served in the Canadian Armed Forces. She is survived by her sister Helen and brother Leo, both of Kamloops BC, and her children Allan (Jo Ann), Randall (Brenda), Loranna (Gord) Laing, Patrick (Joanne) and David (Dorothy). As well she was grandma to 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Ann’s for their devotion, professionalism and tender loving care of our mom. They took both mom and dad into their hearts and excelled in the level of care they provided to both. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens where mom will be buried next to dad. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate instead that a donation please be made to St. Ann`s Senior Citizens’ Village Corporation (2910 Louise St, Saskatoon S7J 3L8). Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
