Maureen is survived by her husband Jim Mitchell, to whom she was married for 63 years; and by her children Karen Millard and Karen's children, Brett, Rhiannon and Jeffrey Millard, Steven Mitchell and his wife, Peggy, and Christopher Mitchell and his son, Griffin Hanson. Mourning her passing in England are her siblings Robert Smith, Barbara Lloyd, and Janet Hetherington, and her many nieces and nephews.
Maureen was always an artist. She studied at Trent Park Teacher's Training College in London, England, and began her career teaching art to elementary school children. The family moved to Canada in the late 1970s and, in the mid-1980s, Maureen founded The Make Up Studio in downtown Saskatoon. She became a sought-after make up artist in almost every field, working with bridal parties and graduands, in television and theatre, and in fashion photography. Her client list became a who's-who of Canadian political, television, theatre and music celebrities.
Maureen was proud to have been a member of the Kinsmen Telemiracle production team. For 24 years, she provided volunteer make up artistry services to the telethon's performers and presenters.
In retirement, Maureen turned her artistic attention from faces to canvases, and amassed a considerable number of figurative and abstract works.
Our special thanks go to Dr Abbas and to Dr Deobold, whom Maureen always called "my rock." We also thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Saskatoon Cancer Centre and of Royal University Hospital; and the doctors, nurses, and staff at Parkridge Centre. Your attention, care and compassionate support during this difficult journey will never be forgotten.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
