It is with sadness the family of Mary Elizabeth Orosz announces her death which occurred Tuesday December 27, 2022 at St. Ann’s Long Term Care Facility, Saskatoon, SK. Mary Orosz was born in Spiritwood, SK on August 22, 1932 to Martin and Mary Anna (Szepesi) Orosz. She had three brothers; Joseph Frank, James Steven and Andrew Alexander Orosz. Mary attended Resolute School until she completed grade three, after which she went to Stockholm, SK to a private boarding school where she completed her education. She stayed with the Sisters of Social Service for 16 years. She received her teachers training in Moose Jaw, SK in the last year that it was called a “Normal School”. Mary taught in various places from Montreal, Quebec to Manning Alberta and a few places in between such as Courtland , Ontario; Allan, Stockholm, Regina, Wilkie and Macklin Saskatchewan and also Mallaig, Alberta. In retirement Mary established an endowment in memory of her parents Martin and Mary Anna Orosz with Mission Canada for the education of seminarians. She also helped with the education of three Salesian priests in Quito Ecuador. Then Mary joined the “Great Bee” for the restoration of the Oratory of Saint Joseph of Mount Royal which is still ongoing. In recognition for this, Mary was named a Grand Associate of Brother André. In the past few years, Mary has contributed to the building of the new Cathedral of the Holy Family in Saskatoon. Mary has always been grateful for her gift of faith. It was always with gratitude she spoke of parents who raised her with this great treasure. She was often heard saying “I am so happy that I am a Catholic”. Throughout her life, Mary prepared hundreds of children for First Holy Communion, Reconciliation and Confirmation. Sometimes she gave up her holidays to help out some Mission Parish. Mary had also become an Honorary Oblate in 1996 for the help she gave the Oblates of Mary Immaculate namely Father James Hermann and Father Ben Hermann. Mary is survived by her three sisters-in-law; Thérèse Orosz, Darlene Orosz and Wylma Orosz, nieces, nephews, cousins in Canada and relatives in Hungary and many friends. She was predeceased by her father Martin in 1981, mother Mary Anna in 1984, her brothers Andrew in 1989, James in 2011 and Joseph in 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday January 4, 2023 at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Place Saskatoon) with Father Ken Beck as celebrant. Rite of Committal to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Catholic section. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Holy Spirit Parish or the Cathedral of The Holy Family (126 Nelson Road, Saskatoon S7S 1H1). The family would like to thank the staff at St. Ann’s home for their compassionate and loving care.
