Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep at Royal University Hospital Thursday December 16, 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (John) McKenzie, their daughters Erin (Sam) McKenzie Gilchrist, Leah (Brian) McKenzie and son Ian (Melanie) McKenzie. Sons David (Sheila) Korol and their daughters Micayla and Melaina. Alvin (Sherri) Korol and their sons Keith and Shane. Lynn (Laurie) Korol. Pat (Aline) Korol and their son Nicolas (Maria), daughter Aimee (Tanner), daughter Nicole, son Lucas (Karla] and son Thomas and six great grandchildren, Ben, Max, Rebecca, Anna, Mira, and Bria.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Joseph and grandsons Brian and Brent McKenzie.
Mary was born September 3, 1923 in the Fish Creek area and was the third child [oldest daughter] of Frank and Ann Kramchynsky. She attended school until grade 8 whereupon she was needed at home to help with the farm and younger siblings. She married Joseph Korol on June 14, 1952 and moved to the farm in the Colonsay/Meacham area. Besides raising her children, she became very adept at raising animals including chickens, geese, turkeys, pigs, cattle along with having a green thumb, whether it be for sustenance (vegetables) or beauty (flowers).
She also learned to operate most machinery on the farm when needed. Mom was an amazing cook and always had food available when anyone stopped by on short notice. When time permitted mom enjoyed going for walks, sewing, reading and was creative in the numerous quilts she made. Her face always lit up when her grandchildren visited and always had their favorite snacks available.
Mom and Dad moved to Saskatoon in 2000 and she continued to walk a great deal and cheer on her grandchildren in whatever endeavors they pursued. She attended church at St. Georges then St. Anne’s after being a member of the Ukrainian Catholic church in Meacham for many years.
In her later years she played Kaiser when able, enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching her sons play slow-pitch (treating the players to her famous puffed wheat cake). Her quiet, dry sense of humor will be sorely missed especially if asked to decide on where to go or what to eat, this usually came with the answer “whatever.” Mom was always grateful for what she had, not for what she could have had.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday December 20, 10:30 am at St. Anne’s Catholic Church (217 Lenore Drive Saskatoon). The Celebrants will be Fr. Matthew Ramsay, Fr. Gregory Roth and Fr. Peter Ebidero. Rite of Committal will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Saskatoon.
