Leslie (László) Kovacs passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 80. He is remembered with love by Liz Kovacs; his daughters Judy (Jeff) Placsko, Debbie Kovacs, and Jaime (Trevor) Mirtle; and his grandchildren Drew and Cody Placsko, Spencer and Victoria Kovacs, and Paige and Reese Mirtle. He is also remembered by his extended family in Hungary and in England. Les was born in Kunmadaras, Hungary on February 14, 1937 and came to Canada in 1956. In Hungary he worked with the train system and in Canada he first worked with Starlite Bottlers and moved on to Intercontinental Packers where he worked for almost 40 years before he retired. From his days growing up in Hungary, he brought his love of sport, travel, and family with him. He was an avid European soccer fan (Real Madrid and Newcastle United) and continued his love of sports in Canada as an enthusiastic hockey fan (the Saskatoon Quakers and the Saskatoon Blades). He also loved to travel by train in Europe, and he extended his passion for travel to his three daughters. He was always a friendly face at the local pub and was known to enjoy a fine pint of Newcastle Brown Ale. His family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare for his care over the last four years and, most recently, the nurses and doctors at Royal University Hospital. He was loved and will be missed. A Come and Go Gathering will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a short program beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor St.) in Saskatoon. Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
