It is with extreme sorrow and sadness that the children of Leah Walker announce her sudden passing on the evening of Monday, January 3, 2022 at the young age of 53.
If you had the privilege of being loved by Leah, then you would know that she would walk to the ends of the Earth for you. She cared so much for the people in her life—cared much more for everyone else’s wellbeing than for her own, and often needed to be reminded that she needed to be a little more selfish every once in awhile. Because we needed her.
An intensely strong-willed, resilient, and brave woman, Leah always had a way of making everything lighter. Whether it be with a “crazy Leah” story (usually about something ridiculous that happened to her), or her immense knowledge and wisdom to help you get through whatever was weighing you down. Her strength was infectious, always managing to find its way to you when you needed it most.
Mom was the epitome of what it meant to be a fighter and she was a force to be reckoned with. Every challenge or obstacle that could be thrown in one’s path, was thrown in hers. But she came right back—always. She was also the most stubborn person you would have ever met, and she managed to leave us with one last “stubborn Leah” story to remember her by: while sedated, she still managed to be aware of the nurses trying to force her to wear the oxygen nose prongs she despised so much. I watched as mom moved her head from side to side every time the nurse made her attempt—and I laughed the entire time. Classic Leah Walker. Mom knew it was time, but she still wasn’t going to go down without a fight.
But after all is said and done, the only thing that she would want to be remembered for was for being a mom. We were her raison d’être, her greatest pride and joy, her greatest accomplishment. Every single thing she did, from the second she became a mother, was for us. We know what love is because of her. We miss you so much, mom.
Love always,
BBG, Bug, Ren, Boo, and Lynnie
Leah is predeceased by her father, Dean Walker. Left to remember Leah are her five children: Deandra (Jeremy), Desirae, Darienne, Justice, and Jace; her mother, MaryAnne; her older brother, Shaun (Wendy); her two younger half-sisters: Amber (Marty) and Laurel; her step-mom: Louella; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and her 150+ house plants.
Leah didn’t want a funeral or a formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leah Walker’s name to a cause of your choosing.
Arrangements entrusted to David Polzen.
