It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our precious son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, and cousin, Kyle Harrison on Tuesday January 2, 2024. Kyle was the second child of Marnie (nee Greenwood) and Calvin Harrison born on October 21, 1996, in Estevan, SK. He grew up in Saskatoon attending Nutana Cooperative Preschool, Buena Vista Elementary school from Kindergarten through Grade 8, and then Aden Bowman Collegiate and Nutana Collegiate. He made a great number of friends along the way, and many of his teachers loved him.
Kyle was rambunctious and loved to be active in sports becoming involved in both hockey and football. He played zone hockey with the Bobcats, earning the ‘A’ on his jersey during his first year of bantam – he was a leader! He went on to play city-wide hockey for second year bantam as a Bandit and with the Spartans as a midget. In football, he was a Bowman Bear. Kyle was a well-loved and well-respected player in both sports and, naturally, made many more great friends during those years. He was so passionate about any of the sporting activities he took part in that he often found himself in the hospital emergency room. Determined to ‘make’ the annual city-wide track meet at Griffiths Stadium, he blew out his knee giving it his all during the high jump event at BV; a game of baseball during a BV recess landed him at emergency with a broken growth plate in his elbow; and an incident with his BMX bike landed him in the back of an ambulance. None of these injuries slowed him down or stopped him – he laughed it off and just kept going, always with a smile.
Kyle had an amazing personality; he was fun-loving with sparkly eyes and an infectious smile that shone brightly for everyone to see. So much so that while out playing with the neighbourhood kids being his joyous, happy self, he was spotted by a talent scout and invited to audition for a television commercial. He got the part and appeared in two SaskEnergy commercials – his first job at the tender age of ten!
Following his work with the television commercials, Kyle worked for a fruit truck company loading trucks and working at fruit truck stands. He then worked for a tree trimming company briefly before he started his career as a heavy equipment operator with ABS Excavating. He learned a lot at this job, and he loved being an operator. Kyle was a respected and valued employee at all his jobs.
Kyle had so much love for animals – all animals – and would do anything he could for the stray dogs that came through his job sites when he was away at work. Little Tanker-Girl will miss him for the rest of her days. Each of the family dogs loved Kyle, but he and Tank had a special bond.
The outdoors was another passion of Kyle’s. He loved it and enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains; he would often say that Red Rock Canyon was one of his favourite places in the world. He had dreams of one day having a place in the wilderness, a private oasis surrounded by nature.
Kyle had a love of food, and he loved to cook amazing meals. He enjoyed watching cooking shows, and he would often try to replicate many of the dishes, some with great success. He loved to try new things in the kitchen. And music! He loved everything from Johnny Cash to rap and hip-hop. Lyrics were important to him, and he listened to them intently, perhaps finding solace in the words.
Kyle had a big, beautiful smile that was accompanied by the most contagious laugh. He had a great sense of humor with a quick wit that will be missed by all who knew him. He had a heart of gold; he was loyal, compassionate, and caring, and these wonderful personality traits made him a valued friend for so many people of all ages. He was ‘Uncle Kyle’ to many of his friends’ kids before he became an actual Uncle to his sister’s sweet baby Vincent just a few months ago.
Kyle’s beautiful presence will be sadly missed, and his memory will be cherished forever by his mother Marnie, and his father Calvin, of Saskatoon, brother Jason (Alice) of Calgary, sister Reanna (Mitch) and baby Vincent of Clavet; grandmother Deanna Harrison, Uncles Todd Greenwood (Marci), Terry Harrison (Maureen), Ernie Harrison (Shelley), and their families. Kyle was predeceased by his grandparents Connie and Miles Greenwood, grandfather Ray Harrison, and Uncle Jason Greenwood.
Kyle was a loyal and loving son, brother, and friend. Those who knew him surely found themselves caught in his spell. Larger than life, charismatic, and charming – that is Kyle, forever in our hearts.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon).
