The family of Julia Anne Kuhar (nee Gyore) sadly announce that she passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the age of 82.
Julia is survived by her loving family; son, Robert (Sylvia) Kuhar of Humboldt; son, Harvey Kuhar of Regina; son, Joe (Patti) Kuhar of Westlock, Alberta and their children, Chris (Alix) of Edmonton, Evan of Fort MacMurray; and Katie Kuhar of Edmonton; daughter Cathy Brown of Chaplin, Sask. and her daughter, Ashley (Luke) Thompson and their children Ayden and Cohen of Gravenhurst, Ontario, and son, Ryan Brown of Chaplin, Sask.; son, Doug Kuhar of Woking, Alberta and his daughters, Jessee Kuhar of Grande Prairie, Julie (Logan) Mortenson of Nokomis, Maggie Kuhar of Grande Prairie, and Montana Kuhar of Spirit River, Alberta; and daughter, Patricia (Shawn) Smith of Nokomis. Julia is also survived by her sisters, Betty (Andy) Tarr of Regina; Loretta Koroluk of Regina; Margaret (Eugene) Purcka of Kelliher; and Ann (Anton) Antonishen of Kelowna, B.C.; and sister-in-law, Victoria Hordos of Quinton. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Julia was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph (Joe) Kuhar in 1993; daughter, Eileen in 1989 and her parents, Steven and Margaret Gyore. Julia is also predeceased by her sister, Regina; brother-in-law Peter Koroluk; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Elizabeth (Alex) Sebastian; Mary (John) Fazakas; Rose (Mike) Wasylyniuk; and Steve Hordos; and father and mother-in-law, John and Mary Kuhar.
Julia was born on October 6, 1935 on the farm in the Leross, Saskatchewan district. She worked as a nurse at the Lestock Hospital and soon after married Joseph “Joe” Kuhar on February 4, 1957. They farmed in the St. Mary's district and then purchased a farm in the community of Punnichy in 1968. Julia and Joe were very involved in the community, serving on St.Albert The Great Parish Council, where Julia was involved in the Catholic Women's League for many years, also serving as president. They were involved in many community and recreational boards and committees in Punnichy, and were club leaders for the Punnichy 4-H Beef Club for many years. Julia and Joe were very involved in the North-East Zone Hereford Association and Saskatchewan Hereford Association. They showed and sold cattle with their family across North America and sold Hereford cattle internationally as well.
After Joe passed in 1995, Julia sold the farm at Punnichy and then lived and worked near family in Regina, Cambridge Bay, N.W.T, Westlock and Woking, Alberta before returning home to Saskatchewan in 2015. Most recently, Julia was a resident at College Park II Retirement Residence in Regina until her passing. Julia's passions were spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, baking, gardening, art, reading, watching sports and news. Julia most loved spending time with her immediate and extended family. Julia was a lady with a big heart and smile, vivacious laugh, strong work ethic and loved to be of service wherever she could lend her many talents.
The Vigil for Julia will be held at 7:00PM on Thursday, December 28th, 2017. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Friday, December 29th, 2017. Both services will be held at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Quinton, SK. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Hungarian Parish Cemetery south of Quinton with FR. Valentine Amobi presiding. Memorial donations in the name of her daughter, Eileen Kuhar, may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
