Please BYO Jameson if you care to toast him. I hope we can share stories and memories, and maybe a joke or two, as he loved to giggle
Established in 1967, John “Jack” Hunter entered this world a solid year (and a bit) after the birth of his beloved Ford Bronco. Although built by Merle and Robert, you could easily argue he was designed by Ford – rugged and tough when needed, yet always grounded by his free spirit. His warm heart, bear hugs, quick wit and animal-whisper abilities were as legendary as his love for his Broncos.
Jack appreciated all aspects of his life. Whether hunting or fishing with his Dad and friends or completing another concrete project at Wright Construction, he enjoyed all of these moments while continually perfecting his approach to each craft. His pride and joy, however was is first-generation Bronco which he enjoyed driving every summer with Heather around the scenic streets of Saskatoon and to the local area lakes and beaches.
Jack battled cancer valiantly these past four years with true grit, determined to beat every curveball that came with this fight. Even in this last round, where the odds were not in his favour, he gave it all he had to the end. He leaves behind a huge gap but many unforgettable memories for his life partner and best friend of 27 years, Heather Paull and their much-loved cat companions and best buddies, Gemmie and Maggie. His Dad Robert (Marie), sister Tania (Roch), niece Laine (Carter), great-nephew Atlas, in-laws Bill & Peggy and Holly (Nathan), numerous extended family members and a wide circle of friends are also left to remember him for his larger-than-life presence, love of the outdoors, gentle and easy going nature.
Although we are profoundly saddened by a life cut way too short, we are comforted to know Jack is resting with his Mom Merle, dogs Snoopy and Rigger, and his little grey cat Sarah. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks where we will not mourn Jack; instead, we will celebrate him with one last party to honour a life well-lived with no regrets.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Saskatoon SCAT Street Cat Rescue, New Hope Dog Rescue, or the St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit, these organizations meant a great deal to Jack. Heather would like to extend her sincere thanks to Jack’s doctors, nurses, support staff, relatives and friends that were there with options, ideas, hugs, smiles, rides, kind words, meals, encouragement, messages, and time spent quietly sitting with him on this long journey. Jack appreciated every friendship and gesture of kindness provided to him over the years and wanted to pass along his gratitude and thanks to everyone once more for the time you spent with him.
Irish Blessing
May the road rise to meet you
may the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
may god hold you in the hollow of his hand.
