Mrs. Johanna Maria Mueller

2022 after a long illness. Johanna leaves to cherish her memory her children, Sylvia and Robert

Johanna will forever be loved by her grandchildren Gabriel Regnier, Daniel Regnier and Lina Kazan Angela Regnier and Nick Falvo (Calgary, Alberta), Maria Regnier and Rodney John (Calgary, Alberta), Maxwell Mueller, Chelsey Wright (Langley, B.C) and Kevin Warn, Ryan Wright and nieces Barbara(Greg) Adams and Margaret Asmuss (Peter Krebs), and great grandchildren, Raphael, Giselle, James, Gabriela, Hannah, Harper Warn, Harrison Warn, Ethan Thorpe and Alena Froehler. Johanna was predeceased by her loving husband Alfred Mueller, her granddaughter Claire Mueller and her son-in-law Gary Wright.

Johanna was born in Bolkenhain, Silesia, a region of Poland. At the end of World War II, many

of her family members and friends were forced at gunpoint to leave Poland and board trains

departing for East Berlin and/or rural east Germany. She chose the train to Berlin. She arrived

facing an unfamiliar city, much larger than her pristine town in Silesia. Johanna worked in east

Berlin in a department store, while her daughter was in a catholic cloister day-care service.

Johanna worked 12 hour day and rode the street car for a long distance to reach her

employment destination. On weekends to survive, she walked along railway tracks to collect

potatoes that had fallen from cargo trains. In 1956, together with her six-year old daughter,

Sylvia, Johanna escaped from East Berlin to Tempelhof in West Berlin, the American sector.

Subsequently Johanna married Alfred who lived and worked in Tempelhof. Three years later

George was born. In 1960, when the communist government fortified the border dividing the

city by constructing the Berlin Wall, Alfred decided to take Joanne, Sylvia and two-year-old

George to immigrate to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Johanna enjoyed reading German magazines, and summer days sitting in the backyard to admire her flowers. Her friends Renate and Helga Schulz encouraged Johanna to enjoy the food and entertainment at the German Club during the annual Folkfest celebrations. She especially treasured her vacations to visit Carmen and family in Langley, B.C.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philip Neri Parish Church (1902 Munroe Ave. South Saskatoon, SK) on Wednesday April 20, 2022 at 10:30 am. No plans for interment at this time.
