Jason was born in Saskatoon, on October 10th, 1976, to proud parents Lise and Adrien. From an early age, Jason became enthralled with hockey. It would become his sport of choice for the rest of his life whether playing, watching, or refereeing. His athletic skills did not end there. He loved trying new sports and would play until he had mastered them. He became adept at many sports like golf, slow-pitch, football, and baseball to name a few, most of which he learned while attending Bishop James Mahoney High School. When he wasn’t playing a sport he would be on the internet looking up scores and stats.
In 1995, Jason found a new passion, his future wife, Cindy. Together, they enjoyed going to concerts and learning to ballroom dance. Jason knew he had found his perfect match in this fiery redhead, and he danced her around the floor at their wedding on July 17, 1999. Their family continued to grow with the birth of their first daughter Dominique in 2002. A few years later, in 2005, their second daughter Sharissa came along. Jason’s three girls were his pride and joy. His world revolved around his new responsibilities as a father and he loved telling people about their latest accomplishments. Jason shared his love of sports with Cindy and his daughters. In the summer, they could be found sea-dooing at the lake, and in the winter, they went snowmobiling on the well-groomed trails around the Biccum farm near Preeceville. As the girls grew older, he was able to take them on larger vacations to Banff and Walt Disney World in Florida. Jason and Cindy purchased their current home in Silverwood Heights, so the girls would have the opportunity to attend Bishop James Mahoney High School just like their father.
Jason always enjoyed a challenge. This was most apparent in his career as he continually strived for excellence and was always chasing the next promotion. Jason was formally educated at Kelsey Campus, SIAST, and earned his diploma in CAD/CAM Engineering Technology in 1998. His first vocational experience came from Alcraft and Hitachi Canadian Industries where he learned the ins and outs of machining and manufacturing. His hard work did not go unnoticed and he was rapidly promoted into project management where he thrived. He worked briefly for AMEC Saskatoon, before accepting a position at Cameco Corporation. Jason loved working on very complex projects with tight deadlines, and had an exceptional talent to find creative solutions for improving productivity while reducing costs. He had a knack for motivating others to work effectively, while ensuring their needs did not go unmet. He was affectionately dubbed the “Kung Fu Panda”. Jason’s skills and hard work once again caught the attention of upper management. He was tasked with overseeing the full project program at Key Lake Operation during the peak of the revitalization project. After several successful years, Jason was called on to advance commissioning of the Cigar Lake project and the processing facility in Kazakhstan. Most recently, Jason held the position of Manager for Construction Management in the Major Projects division for Cameco.
In October 2016, Cindy was able to pull off a seemingly impossible task, planning and choreographing a surprise 40th birthday party for Jason. To celebrate this milestone, Cindy arranged for Jason and her to be picked up at home in a limousine. The limousine drove around Saskatoon picking up several of their closest friends. A fun evening was had by all while dining at Saboroso and successfully escaping from Breakout Room Escape. The evening ended back at Jason and Cindy’s home where they entertained their guests for the remainder of the evening. Jason said that the evening had been the “best birthday he ever had”, and spending the evening with friends and family “profoundly touched his heart.” Little did anyone know that this would be the last large celebration with Jason.
Jason was a loving husband and father, a loyal friend, and a devoted employee. He will be missed by his family, friends, and coworkers. Jason is loved and remembered by his wife Cindy, daughters Dominique and Sharissa, mother Lise Durette, father Adrien (Rose) Piche, maternal grandmother (mémère) Evelyne Durette, parents-in-law Darrell and Barbara Biccum, Cindy’s grandmothers Lorene Biccum and Louise Stroeder, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jason was predeceased by his maternal grandfather (pépère) Leonide Durette, paternal grandfather and grandmother (pepére et memére) Marc and Jeannette Piche, Cindy’s grandfathers Harold Biccum and Alfred Stroeder.
A Vigil for Jason will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Friday, December 30th, 2016 at 10:30am. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a trust fund for Dominique and Sharissa Piche at any Scotia Bank location with the account number 806480225088.
