It is with profound sadness that the family of Glen Dean announce his peaceful passing on Saturday, January 6, 2024 in the arms of his closest family and friends at his home in Sherbrooke. Glen was the most kind-hearted, generous and gentle soul we know. He is survived by wife Carol, son Ryan, daughter Lana, son-in-law Grant, grandson Hudson, in-laws Bob and Colleen Bailey and dog Abbie.
Glen was born on May 13, 1943 in Moose Jaw, SK and was raised in Readlyn, SK. He attended the University of Regina then completed his Bachelor of Commerce Degree here in Saskatoon. He obtained his Charted Accountant designation while he articled with Touche Ross followed by becoming the Controller of Smith Roles and then finally opening his own Charted Accountant firm in 1980. He worked there until his retirement in 2014.
Glen married Carol in 1979 and they had two children, Ryan and Lana. Following his retirement, he did some travelling with his immediate family including a four-week tour of their heritage in England, Ireland and Scotland. He also really enjoyed exploring Hawaii.
Glen loved the news and all sports including his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Blue Jays. Glen also supported his children in various activities including hockey/soccer/baseball/football for Ryan and dancing/piano/soccer for Lana. When declining health forced a final move, he spent the last two years at the Sherbrooke Community Centre. Sherbrooke staff brought him so much joy with their activities including Music with Wes, Church services, and daily coffee with friends.
Outside of work, Glen played an important role in his community by assisting the McClure United Church with accounting, fundraising door-to-door for Canadian Diabetes Association, and also served as a member and auditor of Masonic Lodge.
Family was very important to Glen and he will always be loved and remembered by them. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at McClure United Church (4025 Taylor Street East, Saskatoon). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in honor of Glen Graham Dean: Ways to give | Heart and Stroke Foundation.
