Evelyn "Ev" Emma (Geall) Schumacher

Ev was the loving mother of Cheryl Thacker (Wayne) and Arlene Burke (Bob). She was the proud grandmother of 5 grandchildren: Jessica Reid, Eric Reid, Sara Thacker (Ash Fraser), Kate Story (Dan Story), and Tessa Willfong (Tory Willfong). Ev also enjoyed 6 great-children: Max, Charlee, Hazel, Birdie, Rowan, and Oscar. Ev is lovingly remembered by her siblings Cathy Polsfut, Margaret Olorenshaw, Bob Geall, and Marilyn Berenik. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Fred and Elizabeth Geall, her sister Dorothy Burwell, and her brother Ken Geall.

Ev was born in Asquith, Saskatchewan and attended public school in Asquith and Business School in Saskatoon. Ev spent a career working at McCabe Insurance in Saskatoon, and in addition to running an organized office, she made lifelong friends of her business colleagues. While working full-time, Ev attended university, working on a degree in Social Work. After retiring from the insurance company, Ev worked part-time at Augustana Lutheran Church, using her social work skills and talents to help many people inside and outside the church building. Ev was a very enthusiastic volunteer for many years. In particular, she was very proud of the work done with the Lutheran Care Society and with the Parish Nursing Program.

The Celebration of Life for Evelyn will be held at 2:00 pm from Augustana Lutheran Church (1201 Broadway Ave, Saskatoon) on Monday, December 9, 2024. Memorial donations in Evelyn’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family would like to thank the ambulance and Emergency Room staff at St. Paul’s for the care provided to Ev.
