In loving memory of Edward J Kelly
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ed Kelly, beloved husband, and devoted father, on December 16, 2022.
Ed was born in Winnipeg, MB. He was orphaned at the age of nine and growing up in the foster care system was difficult, but eventually stayed with Mrs. McMichael, a loving mother figure. Years later, a move to Saskatchewan presented the opportunity to work at CJNB in North Battleford as a Radio Announcer. Later, he moved to Prince Albert, SK and worked at CKBI. He was a Radio Announcer and hosted a radio show called The Mailbag. Later, Ed transitioned into the newsroom as a News Reporter.
Ed met Mary, the love of his life, at a café she waitressed at. They married January 7, 1958 and soon started a family. In 1965, they moved to Saskatoon. He took a position at CFQC as a News Reporter for Radio and Television. He was well known for his news stories, police and court reports. He retired from his news career of 27 years and started a position as Executive Fundraiser at Big Brothers. He worked there for 9 years.
Ed enjoyed fishing, camping, barbequing, and yard work. Camping with the family and relatives brought many adventures. He loved classical music, especially Mozart and loved tinkering at his work bench, fixing things. Ed regularly attended church at Riverbend Church of God. He helped narrate the Easter and Christmas services.
Left to mourn are his loving wife of 64 years, Mary, and daughters, Iona and Abby, sisters-in-law, Stella (Ed), Tena and Nettie, cousin-in-law, Frank and family and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Ed was predeceased by his mother and father, mother-in-law, Justina, father-in-law, Isaac, three brothers-in-law, Cliff, Lawrence, and Bob, one nephew, Brian and two nieces, Connie, and Debbie.
To honour Ed’s wishes, he was cremated and no funeral service will be held, instead, we will celebrate his life at a memorial to be held later in the new year.
Thank you to the staff and care workers at Samaritan Place, staff at RUH Emergency and to Mourning Glory Funeral Services for their exceptional work, kindness, and compassion.
Ed, you will be missed dearly.
