February 22, 1946 – September 4, 2015
Duane passed away on Friday after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to grieve and celebrate his memory his loving wife of 47 years Delores (nee Hanowski); daughter Kari (Dean Rutten); and son Paul (Lesley Mansell); his treasured grandchildren Josh and Olivia Rutten, and William and Maxim Weiman; sister Annalee (Richard Hoffer); brothers Bob, Brian (Janice), Wes, Kim and Kelley Weiman; brothers-in-law Don, David and Richard (Julie Cook) Hanowski; sisters-in-law Florence (Roger Cook), Rosanne (Ed Cechanowicz) and Louise (Dave Knowles); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends, especially Frank and Gertrude McGartland. Duane was predeceased by his parents Ray and Lauraine (Hazelwanter) Weiman; and infant daughter Jennifer. Duane lived his life with a happy heart, touching everyone he met with his humor, wit and caring. He loved his teaching career with the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School system, always saying he had the best job in the world. Duane served as an MLA for the Fairview constituency from 1982-1985. He was active in the parish council and various ministries within the church, as well as being involved in neighborhood and community events. Most of all he loved being a part of his huge extended family and friends, sharing songs and laughter and good times. Duane loved to spend winters in Arizona and enjoyed travel throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe and China, in addition to family holidays at Waskesiu. We are so grateful for the excellent care Duane received during his illness, especially from Dr. S. Ahmed and Tracy, and all the palliative home care nurses and care aides, especially Loni. In Duane’s memory, donations to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre or the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated. The Vigil for Duane will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10th and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11th. Both services will be held at Holy Spirit Parish (114 Kingsmere Plc). Arrangements in care of Lisa Ruf – MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306) 978-5200
