It is with deep sadness that we announce that Daniel Ramnarine, age 88, is now in the arms of God. Daniel passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 27, 2022, at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon, his home for the past 2 years. Daniel was born in Sheet Anchor, in the county of Berbice, British Guiana on June 17, 1933. Born in the Hindu faith, his given name was Ramnarine. Upon becoming a Christian at the time of his marriage to Eunice, he chose Daniel as his name. Daniel was orphaned at a young age and was raised by his older siblings. Always interested in business and people, Daniel became involved in a food service concession in the mining area of Guyana. Daniel met Eunice Ramkissoon and became besotted with her. As was his character, he focused all of his energies on wooing her, including with long walks along the sea-wall. They were married in New Amsterdam, Guyana in 1954, and shortly after established a grocery and hardware business to serve their community. Their business success allowed them to become active supporters of their community, in which they generously provided their time and resources to local high schools, long term care homes and many other community projects. Daniel was active in the business Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Lions Clubs International for over 60 years, serving as President of his local New Amsterdam chapter and travelling overseas to several conventions. Daniel and Eunice lived in New Amsterdam, where their seven children were born and raised, until 1978 when political unrest and racial violence caused them, then in their mid-40’s, to immigrate to Regina with their five youngest children, to start a new life. Daniel was a charming and determined man, a leader in his community, blessed with integrity, compassion and wisdom. Friends, family and entertaining were his passion and delight. It was important to him to provide for his family, and teach and instill in each of his children values that would allow them to lead successful and happy lives. Daniel had a strong Christian faith, and was a devoted follower of the teachings of his Lord in all of his daily activities, often delivering the sermon and leading the service in prayer. Daniel retired in 1999 and in 2014 moved to Saskatoon with Eunice. Following 64 years of happy and devoted marriage, Daniel was predeceased by his wife Eunice in 2018. Daniel was also predeceased by his son David and his son-in-law, Donald. He is survived by his children Elizabeth (Kishore) Singh of Ajax, Ontario, David’s wife, Sherry Ramnaraine of Regina, Indira (Rear Admiral Henning) Faltin of Berlin, Germany, Marian (Ronald Q.C.) Miller of Saskatoon, Sarojini (Dr. Anthony) Lang of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Mark Ramnarine of Regina, and Ruth James of Calgary, together with 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Daniel’s family wishes to deeply thank the staff at Oliver Lodge, who cared for Daniel over the past two years. His children are comforted knowing that Daniel is now with his beloved wife, Eunice, whom he has missed deeply each day since her passing. Daniel will be sadly missed but will be in our hearts forever. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church (812 Preston Avenue Saskatoon) with Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. For those unable to attend please visit Redeemer Lutheran Saskatoon - YouTube
