It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Clifford Frederick Holt of Saskatoon, formally of Wadena and Quill Lake, SK. on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023. Clifford was a month short of 88 years of age and was surrounded by his loving wife Lena and loving family after courageous battle with ill health this past year. Cliff is lovingly remembered by his wife Lena, nine Step-Children, 18 Grand Children, and three Great-Grand Children. He was born August 13, 1935 at Quill Lake, SK to Albert & Elsie Holt. Cliff had three Brothers: Lloyd & Sister-in-Law Jean; Norman & Sister-in-Law Jean: Roy & Sister-in-Law Bonnie and Sister Jean & Brother-in-Law Norman Selzer as well as numerous Holt family Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, father, brothers and sister and their spouses.
Clifford farmed in the Quill Lake area when he met and married Lena Nieckar in 1990 and became an instant step-father of nine children and a grandfather. They moved to Wadena, Sask. where they resided until 2013 when they moved to Saskatoon, where he lived until his passing.
Cliff loved to dance and listen to country music which would bring an irresistible smile to his face; he got to fulfill a lifelong dream of travelling to Nashville, TN and visiting the Grand-Ole-Opry and the Elvis Presley estate. He worked for many years at the Wadena Golf Course where he kept those grounds in immaculate shape; the family were often recipients of many golf balls he found mowing the Fairways.
Clifford and Lena grew great gardens and flowers that many people driving by, often stopped to admire. He was also an awesome pierogi and noodle maker; he could pinch those pierogies a mile-a-minute and was hard to beat. Cliff was very patient, understanding and kind man, especially when all nine family members with their spouses and children descended on their home to visit. He used to laughingly grumble about the Kids using up all the hot water and the Grand Kids playing on top of his pool table. Some of Cliff’s favorite sayings were: “Giver Tarpaper” and “You Can’t Fly on One Wing”. Clifford was truly one-of-a-kind loving Husband and Step-Dad who will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered in our hearts. God Bless You Cliff – Rest in Peace!
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday July 14, 2023 at Quill Lake Cemetery, Quill Lake Saskatchewan.
