Cheryl was born in Saskatoon and lived there her entire eighty years of life. She was married to Harold Lejbak until his passing in 2020. Cheryl is survived by two children, Ryan Lejbak and Lisa Lejbak (Chris Nastiuk), and one granddaughter, Piper Lejbak. She is also survived by her two sisters, Kaeren Lawrence and Denise Keith, brother-in-law Wally Lejbak (Maureen), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Cheryl attended Teacher’s College at the University of Saskatchewan, where she was the Snow Queen and met her husband, Harold. She was a trailblazer in her early career, owning a preschool business for many years when preschools and women-owned businesses were less common. She spent the latter part of her career at the Emerald Casino, where she retired in the surveillance department.
Family and friends meant everything to Cheryl. She loved spending time with her granddaughter, Piper, especially, and was so proud of her. Cheryl had long-term friendships that began in her toddler years, and she continued to make new friends wherever she went. She maintained friend groups from childhood (the Big Ten), preschool parents, swimming friends, neighbourhood friends, casino friends, bridge friends, and most recently, her new friends at Aspira Village. She loved her pets and especially missed her cat Maxwell Smart, who predeceased her in 2023.
Cheryl had many interests. She loved going to Waskesiu in the summer and traveling to warm places in the winter. She won bridge competitions and was known as the Poker Queen due to her skill. She had a discerning eye, and her regal style was easily recognizable in how she dressed and decorated. She loved Christmas and the Roughriders. She volunteered throughout her life, including the initial fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House. But mostly, you could find her visiting or talking on the phone with friends.
In her final days, Cheryl talked a lot about her life and friends. She was at peace and reflected on her wonderful life. She wanted people to celebrate her. She wanted to ensure everyone was cared for, in keeping with her nurturing and compassionate nature. She wanted her family and friends to know she loved them and to have fun remembering her. She joked that everyone should decorate in all white and sparkles in her honor. She also wanted a party.
As Cheryl wished, we will celebrate her life this summer (date to follow). She was planning this event, even on her last day. She requested donations to go to Street Cat Rescue in Saskatoon if people care to donate.
