April 7, 1923 – July 30, 2021
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Betty Featherstone, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, who passed away peacefully at Oliver Lodge at the age of 98.
Betty was born at the Red Cross Post in Somme, Saskatchewan. She grew up with her sisters and brothers on the farm. The siblings were always close and enjoyed each others company, except when playing cards then it was everyone for themselves. She was always there to help her Mom in the home. No wonder she became such a good cook and baker.
In 1941, at the age of 18, she followed her brothers to the Perdue area where she worked as a housekeeper, store clerk, and telephone operator.
She married her love Elwood Featherstone on July 31, 1945. They lived on the Featherstone Family Farm for 31 years, where they raised their children and their two nieces that came to live with them. In 1976 they moved into their newly built home in Perdue where they enjoyed many wonderful years, including their 50th Anniversary.
Betty was an active member of her community, not only to help but she liked the company and fun. She belonged to the Happy Gang, UCW, Agriculture Society, The United Church, Meals on Wheels, the New Horizons, and the Exercise Club. She enjoyed curling, bowling, reading, cooking & baking, sewing, and a good game of cards.
Betty & Elwood were fortunate to be able to travel across Canada, much of the US, including Hawaii, as well as visiting family in the UK. Her last trip, at the age of 90, was to fly to Comox, BC to visit her brother Gwyne.
At 94 she made the big move to Parkville Manor in Saskatoon. She made it her new home and enjoyed new friendships with both fellow residents and staff.
Wherever she made her home, friends and family were always welcome. Above all her family meant everything to her and she was everything to them. She is lovingly remembered by her children Vernon and Beryle (friend Les); grandchildren Craig and Jeffrey (Merilynn); great-grandchildren Kassen and Sharred; special nieces Janice (Jim) and Brenda and both their families. She will also be remembered and missed by sister Irene and brothers Stan, Gwyne (Eleanor), Ivan (Olga), brother-in-law Fred, plus many nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Elwood, parents Elizabeth & Henry, sisters Joyce and Grace, brothers John & Fred, and son-in-law Barry. As well as the many much loved and remembered in-laws.
In memory of Betty, memorial donations may be made to the Leney Cemetery Fund (Box 344, Perdue, SK S0K 3C0).A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Perdue Complex, Perdue, SK.
