It is with great sadness that the family of Barry Blakley announces his passing from pancreatic cancer on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Barry was born in Saskatoon on July 3, 1949, and was the oldest of five siblings. As a Veterinary Toxicologist, Barry was an accomplished and well-respected researcher, professor, mentor, clinical diagnostician, and storyteller. He completed his BSc in Chemistry in 1971, DVM in 1975, and MSc in Veterinary Physiological Sciences in 1977 at the University of Saskatchewan followed by a PhD in Toxicology in 1980 at the University of Cincinnati, where he met his wife, Pat. Barry and Pat were married in Newport, Rhode Island on May 1, 1982, and have five children and three grandchildren. For decades, he was a highly sought-after fastball player known for his unique pitching style as well as a skilled hockey defenseman. Barry will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit, charisma, endless stories, tremendous breadth of knowledge, pragmatic attitude, as well as his love and pride for his family.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Melissa (1987), his parents, Edwin (1999) and Dorothy (2007), and his niece, Laura (2016). Barry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pat, his children and grandchildren – Matt (Hennie), Alicia (Lane and children, Paizlee and Enzo), Beth (Jon and child, Jack), and Tim – as well as his siblings – Brian (Joan and children, David and Chris), Diane (Robert and children, Dale and Jacqueline), Leslie (Gary and children, Thomas and Scott), and Janet (Ron and children, Mariah and Blake).
