I just got to know that he is no more and I am deeply saddened by this news. He was the reason why I enjoyed my Toxicology classes so much. I will always cherish him as one of the greatest professors I have ever had.

I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. Barry Blakley earlier this year. Dr. Blakley was not only my professor for Toxicology but also my academic advisor. I will forever be grateful for his kindness, understanding, and unwavering support.

In 2017, he graciously wrote me a reference letter that played a pivotal role in helping me gain admission to my dream school and neuroscience program. His belief in me made a lasting impact on my life, and I will always cherish the guidance he offered during my academic journey.

Dr. Blakley’s compassion and dedication to his students will be remembered fondly. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Barry Blakley. I was just checking through the Internet and that was how I found out.

Dr. Blakley was my Ph.D supervisor at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. He was a beloved and supportive supervisor.

Dr. Blakley was one of my professors when I attended WCVM.  He was a very quiet person on the outside but it didn't take long to learn that there was a lot going on inside  when you had a conversation with him. He was very passionate about his work and his students.  He has been such an important resource not just for students but for practicing veterinarians as well. He was always willing to take the time to help me work through herd problems and suggest the next steps for diagnostic testing. He helped me and my practice associates figure out several herd level problems that saved the lives of many animals and prevented ongoing hardship for the owners.  Thank you Dr. Blakley.   Your contributions to our profession and animals has made a difference.

To Pat, Matt, Alicia, Beth, Tim and families:
I feel very fortunate to have known Barry and Pat.  Barry was one of those rare pillars of the community.  I worked as a research technologist in the college of veterinary medicine when Barry was doing his master’s degree.  He was a very pleasant hard working young man and showed great promise for being an accomplished veterinarian and scientist, which he grew to be.  He has touched everyone who knew him along his journey through life in a positive way and has made the world a better place.  No greater tribute can be paid to any among us.  He has been an excellent role model for many people and that legacy will live on.

My sincere condolences to Barry's family, friends and colleagues. I just heard of his passing and will watch the service on line if it is still available. Dr. Barry Blakley will be missed indeed! He was an incredible  human and was an excellent mentor. A memory that I would like to share involved standing in a client's field of cattle and watching while some of them were literally dropping dead. The list of differentials was long. Dr. Blakley helped me process that list and quickly came to the conclusion that it sounded like Chlorate toxicity. Not only did he quickly narrow the diagnostic path, he was 100% correct and the offending chemical was found and the rest of the herd was moved to safety and the exposed were treated and saved. He helped to get this case published and I will forever be grateful for how much he helped me on this and other cases.  I always enjoyed his stories and we had some long chats. He was kind and gentle and a brilliant scientist. He will really be missed.

My sincere condolences to Barry’s family. I was fortunate to have met Barry early in his career at WCVM as I was in the first vet class that he taught. Many years later we worked together at Prairie Diagnostic Services, where I was in the Microbiology Lab. Over the years I appreciated his dedication and focus on applied veterinary toxicology; his commitment to service, teaching and outreach in the area was a tremendous asset to the veterinary community.

I saw the service on the internet as I am in Arizona. Otherwise, I would certainly have been there. I thank Brian and the Dean of WCVM and Sudsy for their recollections of Barry. 

Never knew that much of him other than as a good fastball pitcher, and once when he helped us with our service dog’s issues eating wild mushrooms. 

It appears that the Twisters were well represented, and am truly sorry I could not be there as part of the Twister team. 
  
Pastor Tastad’s comment about Barry being at the church too early because Easter is still a week away, was priceless. One of the reasons I always admired the Lutheran Church and its approach.

As a veterinarian, I knew Barry professionally and as a team-mate on the Molson Golden Twisters for a number of  years. Yvette and I hosted the year-end windup in our backyard for many years, an event that Barry really enjoyed;  relaxing after a successful season and anticipating another academic year on the horizon at WCVM.

It is always a sad thing to think that such a talented person can be taken so soon in life when he (or she) still has so much to offer.

Dr Barry Blakley was instrumental in my experience in the Toxicology PhD program at the U of S. From his teaching, mentorship and hallway chats about everything from research to hockey I have many great memories.  It was so great to see him last June in Saskatoon for his Lifetime Achievement Award from the Toxicology Centre at the University of Saskatchewan.  He shared stories with me in his usual way and clearly still had the energy and passion for teaching and mentorship that  I remember well.  He made an incredible contribution to the Toxicology Centre and the WCVM and has impacted many people both personally and professionally.  He will be missed and remembered fondly by many.

My sincere condolences to Barry’s family. Barry’s knowledge and expertise were invaluable to me in my capacity as a diagnostic pathologist over a 30 year period. He helped me solve many suspect toxicologic cases.

My deepest sympathies. Dr. Blakley was my toxicology professor when I attended WCVM. But also when I was a diagnostic pathologist and had multiple toxicology questions, Dr, Blakley was always generous with his time answering my question, often with added great humor. He made my job so much easier. He will be missed.

Dr Blakley was my toxicology professor at WCVM (class of 2011) and I remember him for his deep knowledge of the subject, his ability to make toxicology interesting, and his extreme patience with our class when we seemed not to be absorbing any of the material he was teaching. His description of the toxicity of insulin has helped me immensely as a veterinarian when I counsel clients with diabetic pets, and recalling his lecture about strychnine still makes us laugh to tears. I am so sorry for your loss,

I extend condolences to Barry’s family on his passing.  My wife and I got to know Barry when our daughters, Beth and Jennifer, were in school together.  For a number of years until I retired from the University, we would occasionally chat in the parking lot beside Vet Med and Engineering.  Barry was a great talker, and that is a bit of an understatement!  A very friendly fellow.  In a more recent chat, he told me about the booking he was writing, with Beth’s help, of forensic work he had done over the years.
