He was predeceased by his parents Apolonia (NEE Mazurkewich) and Michael Korol, and brothers, Myron, Joe, and sister, Vicki Schewaga.
Tony was born on April 2, 1926 in the Trojan district, Saskatchewan. Throughout his childhood, he lived and worked on his family farm and traveled two miles to school on a horse and sleigh and later a caboose. At age 18, he moved to Ontario where he worked a car assembly line and was a Produce Manager. Fortuitously, it was when he started working as a bartender that he met his future wife, Elsie. They were married in 1948 and were together 74 years. Their first two children, Ron and Diane were born in Ontario. When they later moved to Saskatoon, they welcomed four more children, Darlene, Randy, Donna, and Rob. For the next 22 years, Tony was an Aerial Photographer covering farmyards from Western Canada to Western Ontario. One day, after the plane’s engine failed and had to make an emergency landing, Elsie, with six children to think of, put her foot down and told Tony he was grounded.
Tony then spent many years as a Construction Contractor. He built the family home in 1960 as well as a few neighboring homes. When they opened A&E Stitchery in downtown Saskatoon, Tony took numerous courses to learn how to repair sewing machines. He spent 41 years plying this trade as A. Tony’s Sewing Machine and Serger Service. He was actively involved in this craft until his 97th birthday. Tony’s customers always thought he was 20 years younger. Tony followed current affairs, new and politics. He enjoyed reading the Star Phoenix daily. Tony loved camping and fishing in the many lakes throughout northern Saskatchewan. Having been raised on a farm, Tony shared a love of the land and animals with daughter Darlene (Jim) Buttar and loved visiting their ranch outside of Kindersley.
Tony and Elsie also spent 18 years away from the Saskatoon winters in Australia where he took up residence three months of the year as gardener and handyman for daughter, Donna (Chris) Salmon. Tony was a jack of all trades and could turn his hand to fix anything.
Tony will be greatly missed by Elsie, his children, and numerous grandchildren. We love you Tony, Dad, Grandpa…. until we meet again in the Lord’s Garden.
