It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alexandra “Alex”. Predeceased by her father, Robert, memories of Alexandra will be cherished by her mother, Lorraine; brother John (Michelle); sister Alison; and her beloved daughter, Sadie Keillor. She will also be remembered by her extended family whose roots are on the east coast and the special friends she had along her journey.
Alexandra was precocious and creative, a free spirit who reminded us of her birth year and the Summer of Love. She loved all genres of music and was a frequent attendee of the Ness Creek Music Festival with guitar in hand. No one would forget her unique sense of style replete with funky hats, sundry jewelry and leggings.
She was an excellent athlete and, in her younger years, she represented Alberta in badminton at the Canada Winter Games. While at King’s-Edgehill School in Nova Scotia, she was a provincial hurdles finalist. She excelled in skiing and was an early snowboarder. In her later years, she enjoyed fly-fishing with her long-time partner David Black. Nature provided inspiration and awe and she frequently took long walks.
Alexandra had a sensitive soul and an open heart and touched many people from all walks of life on her journey. She laughed easily and loved to watch sitcoms and comedies.
Her travels took her to India where she was blessed amongst a crowd by the Dalai Lama, to Germany and France to ski with family and to L.A. and Sunset Boulevard where she helped a friend with preparations in the opening of a juice store. She returned to Canada in an El Camino she had found and purchased.
Her working life included tree planting in BC and SK, bookkeeping for a health food store, clerking at Lang's Grocery and various landscaping, painting and waitressing jobs.
Above all, Alexandra cherished time spent with Sadie. They shared a love of art and trinkets, baubles and gems that would catch the eye. A tour together in Calgary would often include a trip to Chinatown to see the fish in aquariums at markets and restaurants. Nothing anchored her more in this world than her love of Sadie, her pride and joy.
Alexandra struggled to find solace and meaning through most of her life, hampered as she was with the challenges of mental health and substance use disorders.
A donation in Alexandra’s memory to any organization supporting those living with mental health and substance use issues would be appreciated.
A Celebration of Life for Lorraine and Alexandra will be at held 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre (2200 St. Henry Avenue, Saskatoon). For those unable to attend please visit www.faithproductions.ca/livestream
