Roy Diton of Longboat Key and Sarasota, Florida passed away on July 4th at age 88 years young. He was born and raised in Brooklyn New York and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Baruch College in New York City. Roy had a successful career in Advertising and Sales, most notably as Director of Asian Operations for Merck & Co. and American Home Products. He also had a successful career as an entrepreneur, owning and operating Trade Media International for 25 years. Roy was an active member of the Manhattan Rotary Club for many years. He also served in the Army Reserves for six years as a Lieutenant Communications Specialist.
Roy was a true renaissance man. He was a world traveler, visiting most of the countries in Asia and Europe on either business or pleasure. Roy was an avid runner, running many 5 and 10k races in the New York/Long Island area. Roy played baseball at Thomas Jefferson High School and was a Dodgers fan until they broke his heart when they left Brooklyn, and then a diehard Mets fan. He also enjoyed playing tennis and basketball, and was a certified SCUBA diver. He was happiest on the beach, either diving through the waves or lying in the sun doing the New York Times crossword puzzle. His pool entry dives were famous at the Sea Place aquatic center. Roy was also a trivia buff, running trivia events at Sea Place for many years.
Roy is survived by his wife Helen of 66 years, his son Jeffrey and daughter in law Liz, his two grandsons Robert and Matthew, his granddaughter in law Andrea, and his two great grandsons James and Aaron. No matter how sick Roy became, he always perked up when his grandsons or great grandsons called. Roy is also survived by his sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Stanley.
