Richard was born on July 15th, 1942 in Tiffin, Ohio to Edward and Helen (Baumgardner) Burns. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Tom, Paul, Eugene, Alan and Carol (Buck) Burns. He is survived by his beloved sister Carolyn Hoover and his beautiful wife Nancy (Boner) Burns who he loved and cherished for 62 wonderful years. Together they raised four children, Gary J Burns, Cyndi S Coleman, Dennis E (Heidi) Burns of (Tiffin) and Duane T (Lisa) Burns of (Bradenton FL) and 21 Grandchildren. They both worked tirelessly to give all of them a wonderful childhood and Christian upbringing. While raising a family of their own, over many years, they also were able to be temporary foster parents to many teenagers who were in need of a home.
Richard (Dick) attended St Mary’s Catholic Church in Tiffin and graduated from Calvert High School in 1960 and shortly thereafter was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. He excelled in all sports, but he was known as one of the best pitchers to ever come out of NW Ohio. After his stint with the Indians and their minor league system, he played semi-pro ball for a dozen more years. While still playing, he served as a fantastic mentor and coach to so many young players and was respected by all. During those years, he worked for Kleppers in Tiffin, Ohio and was well known for his kindness and generosity on his delivery routes.
In 1980, he and Nancy moved to Sarasota, Florida. Both Dick and Nancy worked as well as volunteered countless hours at Incarnation Catholic Church in Sarasota making sure thousands of people had a beautiful environment for worship and fellowship. Dick will always be remembered for his never wavering faith and his never-ending journey to spread the good word and help as many people as possible.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Robert Toale Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service at Incarnation Church in Sarasota on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:00 am, followed by a memorial service and burial in Tiffin.
