Paul E. Hershberger, was born to Edwin and Esther (Miller) Hershberger on May 16, 1919. He died at the Sunnyside Village on July 22, 2014 following a brief illness. In his youth he accepted Christ as his Savior. He became a member of the Fairview Mennonite Church and later transferred his membership to the Bethel Mennonite Church in Sarasota, FL. He married Ida N. Yoder on October 5, 1939 in Mayes County, Oklahoma. They lived in Mayes County for 3 years then moved to Kalona, Iowa where he farmed until his retirement. Ida preceded him in death on July 11, 1982. Paul married Malinda (Schrock) Yoder on November 24, 1983 and then moved to Sarasota, Florida where he has resided ever since. Paul and Ida wintered in Florida for ten years before her passing. Paul and Malinda enjoyed traveling together for a number of years. He enjoyed playing games and did so regularly with family members. Paul was a man of wisdom and integrity and has left a remarkable legacy for his family. He was well liked by the nursing staff and all who knew him at Sunnyside Village. They enjoyed his humor, his patience and endurance as a resident there. His family cherished the time spent with him in his last days and were comforted by his desire to go home to see his Lord. He spoke freely of his going home to all who came into his room. Survivors include his wife Malinda, six sons, Edwin (Marge), John (Sally), Paul (Ruth), Marvin (Paulette) and Nelson (Sue) all of Kalona and David (Miriam) of Sarasota, Florida; two daughters, Edna of Sarasota, Florida and Irma (Mark) Miller of Kalona. Four stepsons Maynard (Betty) Yoder, of Sarasota, Florida, Norm Yoder and Larry (Betty) Yoder of Hartville, Ohio, Merv Yoder of Goshen, Indiana and a step daughter Carol (Milton) Yoder of Sarasota, Florida. Other survivors include three brothers Joe Hershberger of Kalona, Mark Hershberger of Hutchinson, Kansas, John (Esther) Hershberger of Hartville, OH; one sister Rhoda of Kalona; 19 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren and 39 step great grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Magdalena (Mrs. Jonas Beachy) three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, a stillborn granddaughter Laverna, a grandson Steve Hershberger and 2 great grandsons Boston and Kai Hershberger. The family would like to express their gratitude for the expressions of sympathy and the many acts of kindness shown to them during this time.
