Born in Pennsylvania, Patty attended Drew University where she met her husband of 56 years, Ronald. She taught elementary school in Piscataway, NJ for over 30 years.
She had two children, David Vander Schaaf and Ellen Kerns. Each of them have two sons. They are Mark and Brian Vander Schaaf, Nathan Williams and Jonathan Kerns. A brother, Richard Kiefer, lives in Williamsburg, VA.
In 2008 the Vander Schaaf’s moved to Sarasota.
Patty was an active member of the 1st Congregational UCC church.
