She was visited there by many friends and family and was so thankful for the time they shared together.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ralph and Bernice Johnson.
Linda was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her childhood was spent in Brooklyn Center. She graduated from St. Anthony Village High School. She received her BA in elementary education from Augsburg College in Minneapolis and completed her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
Linda spent a year in Tokyo where she taught English at the Little Friend’s School of English. She moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin where she worked for Head Start as a teacher and a program director and in Residence Life at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. She then took a position at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh as the Assistant Director of Residence Life. Linda and Richard moved to Florida in 1996. She became an Admissions Counselor for Eckerd College and was promoted to the Director of the Sarasota campus for the Program for Experienced Learners.
Linda is survived by Richard Farley, her life partner of 38 years, three brothers, David Johnson (Theresa), Tom Johnson (Stephanie), Paul Johnson (Cindy), a sister Barbara Bilgutay (Mehmet), and her nieces and nephews.
Linda loved her work at Eckerd College. She enjoyed music, reading, yoga and traveling. She was a member of the ABWA, was the past president of UMR-ACUCHO, a faculty advisor to the Eckerd College Sarasota Alumni Association, and participated in many other groups and organizations in her career in education.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 28, 2013 at 12:00 pm at the Palms-Robarts Funeral Home at 170 Honore Ave., Sarasota FL 34232.
