Linda was born in Rochester, New York, on April 21, 1949. She graduated from Irondequoit High School, and then the University of Kansas in 1971. Linda completed her Master’s Degree at American University in Washington, DC in 1976.
She worked in Washington as a lobbyist for Common Cause. Following that, she was a marriage and family therapist in Toledo, Ohio, and Tampa, Florida. Thereafter, she had her own private practice in Sarasota. Finally, she taught Mathematics in high school in Sarasota. Nevertheless, she always felt that the primary work of her life was spent in raising her children and loving her family.
Linda enjoyed sewing, and she was an avid quilter. Her real joy; however, was spending time with her many close friends, family, and her canasta card group.
She had a reassuring smile, and was always ready to help anyone. She supported her friends, and will always be remembered as a selfless, giving person. Her family and friends loved her dearly.
She is survived by her husband Chuck, with whom she has been together for 50 years, son Tyler, and daughter Courtney, all from Sarasota. She has a wonderful, loving daughter-in-law, Jordana, and two grandchildren, Elliot and Jack, both of whom she loved more than words can express. Linda has two brothers, Thomas of Pinehurst, NC, and James of Athens, Greece.
Linda was predeceased by both of her parents, Susannze Carson Heard and Warren Heard.
There will be a viewing and visitation on Tuesday, January 31, at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at a later time for her family and friends.
If one wishes, donations in Linda’s memory may be made to the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund – “Team Bravery” or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
