Joyce began and finished her life in Florida but traversed the world serving God and country as a military wife, mom, grandma, and friend to many. No sooner than the moving boxes would arrive, Joyce was already busy making new friends and signing up to serve not only in the many military expectations and opportunities of an officer’s wife but always involved at schools, church, civic and charity events as well sharing her creative gifts in music, the arts, Bible study, hospitality, librarian, and much more. Her faith in Jesus was her strength, courage, and comfort throughout the 26 years of her husband’s service that frequently left her home alone to hold down the home front and raise their two children, Kathy, and Keith in a time before email and cell phones.
Joyce was dearly loved by her husband of almost 59 years, David Sims, children Kathy (Russ) Keith (Jolie), grandchildren Chandler, Emily, Elizabeth and James, her sister Ellen and so many wonderful friends and other family members. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Barron and Marguerite Childs.
