Dr. Frank C. Genovese peacefully passed away in Sarasota, Florida on September 24, 2020. He was the husband of the late Dr. Rosalie Goldwater Genovese and the son of the late Dr. Frank & Mary Genovese.
He is survived by his brother, James & wife, Kathleen Genovese of Newberg, Oregon; his sister-in-law, Jo Ann Goldwater of Montreal, Canada; several cousins, many wonderful friends & neighbors, and loving friends, Robyn Stevenson and Pam (Dolan) & Anthony DeMarie of Sarasota, Florida.
Born in Patterson, NY where his father was the family doctor, Frank used to say that he knew Pam and Pye Dolan since before they were born. Their mothers were good friends, and Frank’s father delivered both girls. Little did they know that they would meet up again many years later in Sarasota, Florida.
Frank and Rosalie met in New York City and after their marriage, Frank decided to return to MIT to finish his PhD in physics. As part of this program, they spent a year in Copenhagen, Denmark where he worked at the Niels Bohr Institute, with the son of the renowned physicist.
On their return to the US, Frank went to work at Xerox in Rochester, NY. He was the inventor of 55 patents, but was very modest about his accomplishments. Frank had a scientific mind and of he didn’t have a pad and pencil in his hand scribbling down ideas, he was sitting at the computer writing formulas or designing something. He continued to do this until very shortly before his death.
Always with a story to tell, Frank had an infectious dry wit and a sense of humor that kept everyone smiling and laughing wherever he went. He loved gourmet food and he and Rosalie were both excellent chefs. They dined in many wonderful French and Italian restaurants where their meals were usually accompanied by a bottle of Frank’s favorite wine, Cabernet, and a cannoli for dessert.
Frank was able to fix anything, whether it was mechanical, electrical, or anything else. The occasional time that he called a repairman for an appliance, he usually told the repairman how to fix it.
Rosalie’s sister Jo Ann, has fond memories of the times they all spent together in Montreal Canada, Rochester NY, Ogunquit Maine, and Sarasota Florida. Over the 44 years that Rosalie and Frank were married, Frank was like a brother to Jo Ann.
During the 11 years of Rosalie’s illness, Frank took wonderful care of his “chief”, as he called her. He was a devoted husband, and when she suffered so much, he suffered along with her.
After Rosalie’s death six years ago, Robyn Stevenson took wonderful care of Frank until the very end, and looked after him as a dear friend.
