Anne was welcomed to the world, along with her twin sister, on July 24, 1937 in Washington DC, where she attended Notre Dame Academy and graduated from Trinity College in 1959. Shortly after graduation, she started her thirty-plus year career at the Agency for International Development in Saigon, Vietnam, where she served from 1963 to 1970. As a Foreign Service Officer, she applied her intelligence and strong work ethic to all her responsibilities. Traveling the world, she was especially interested in the cultures of Asia and Africa. Her tours of duty included Saigon, Laos, Ethiopia, Cairo, Niger, Sri Lanka, El Salvador, Madagascar, and the Philippines. She retired in 1997 and made Sarasota, FL her new home, where she volunteered at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in the early 2000s, gardened, and delighted in her visits from friends, siblings and her growing family.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Anne Dahlstedt, sister Mary Callahan (Norman), brother Robert Dahlstedt (Loretta), and brothers-in-law, Owen Granville, Peter Sheridan, and James George. She is survived by her beloved sisters Carol Granville, Sarasota, and twin sister, Jeanne Sheridan, Lakewood Ranch, her nieces and nephews Thomas Carolan of Rockville, MD, Timothy Carolan of Portland, OR, Jeanne Broadhurst (Joseph) of Smyrna, Ga, Michael Carolan of Austin, TX, Kathleen Carolan (Ventura) of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and Suzanne Carolan of Washington, DC, Maureen Gaines (Jim) of Lexington MA, Stephen Dahlstedt (Shannon) of Greensboro, NC, Eileen Dahlstedt of Richmond, VA, Michael Callahan (Nora) of Vienna, VA, Kathleen Warkentin (Paul) of White House Staton, NJ, Patrick Callahan (Samantha) of Laurel, MD and John Callahan (Claudia) of Leesburg, VA.
“Aunt Anne” had a special connection with her twin sister Jeanne and loved Jeanne’s children as her own. She continued that legacy of love and devotion to all of her grand-nieces and nephews, especially: Megan, Owen, Dylan, Katie, Kristen, Sinead, Bridget and Fiona. She touched many lives with her graciousness, thoughtfulness and sense of humor.
Her love and talent for bringing beauty to everything she touched was a mere reflection of her enormous, joyful heart. Anne will be dearly missed by her friends and family and leaves many heavy hearts behind as she rests in eternal peace with Our Lord.
