Ruth Dunn Parker passed away peacefully at her home on August 22, 2017. She was born on September 25, 1917 in Samson, Alabama to Thomas and Delilah Dunn. She spent her early years in Elba, Alabama and Quincy, Live Oak and Blountstown, Florida. She was married for 63 years to Glenn M. Parker who owned and operated G. M. Parker’s Garage in Prichard, Alabama. She was a resident of Chickasaw for approximately 75 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Chickasaw for around 70 years and cherished singing in the choir and being involved in Sunday School and the WMU. Ruth was committed to praying for those who were ill and those who asked for prayers. She taught at Plateau Christian Grade School and substituted in public schools. She enjoyed seeing her friends at church, listening to music, singing, reading the Bible, gardening in her younger years and spending time with her family and friends. Ruth is survived by her son, Thomas G. Parker and wife Joy snd daughter, Patricia A. Parker. She is also survived by her brothers, Youris Dunn, Roy Dunn and wife, Lou, sister, Maggie Durrance; granddaughter, Susan Thomaston and husband Mark; great-grandchildren; Parker Thomaston and wife Becky, Drew Thomaston (Adriane), Morgan Thomaston, Dalton Thomaston, Easton Thomaston, great-great grandchildren; Eli, Eber, Haylnn, Henley, Hendrix, Balin; special friend, Roxanne Quinn, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn M. Parker, parents, Thomas and Delilah Dunn; brothers, Arthur and William Dunn and sister, Ruby Randall. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at First Baptist Church Chickasaw on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until funeral service time of 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. Special gratitude is expressed to Andrea Smith, present caregiver, all of the kind caregivers who helped Ruth throughout the years and to Covenant Care Hospice for their attentive care. In lieu of flowers donations may be offered to your favorite charity.
