L.T. was born on November 19th, 1929 in Mobile, Alabama to Bessie Russell Lowery & Lonnie Lowery Sr. Meridian Mississippi and Citronelle, Alabama was called “home” for the majority of his childhood. After high school graduation, L.T. joined the United States Army where he was part of the 82nd Airborne Division. L.T. eventually worked at International Paper Company. After 35 years of service, he retired to his home in Saraland, Alabama.
L.T. had a front row seat to a magnitude of historical events; The Great Depression (1930), Pearl Harbor (1941), the beginning of Rock “N” Roll (1951), the 1st man on the moon (1969), the birth of the Saraland City School System (2008), the release of the first I-pad (2010), the COVID Pandemic (2020), and 16 American Presidents. Needless to say, his life spoke volumes.
Mr. Lowery was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Russell Lowery; his wife, Betty Jo Lott Lowery; and his son, Danny Lowery. He is survived by two children, Shiela Stonecypher (Tommy) and Mary Tate, as well as a 96 year old sister, Eloise Wolfshimer. Over the years the family has grown to include, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great-grandson.
Graveside services will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens on Celeste Road in Saraland, Alabama on Tuesday, February 7th at 2pm. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-saraland.com.
