He was a proud graduate of McGill Toolen Class of 1995. He played in the McGill Toolen Band in high school. John Michael Connelly, also known as Mikey or Spanky, was a gentle soul. He would talk to the homeless and he never met a stranger. He was an animal lover and would try to take care of stray animals. He would always stop to move a turtle out of the road. He loved his family and friends. He was always doing little things for them to make them smile. He was an avid outdoorsman and his favorite hobby was fishing. He played baseball in his youth. He worked at Mobile Water & Sewer for 22 years as a Public Service Worker. He was proud to dive the manholes that he said most others would not.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Michael Connelly, Sr. and Linda Smith Connelly; devoted aunt, Willie Mae Lott; and his grandparents, Charles Ray and Inez Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Julie Connelly; one daughter, Avagrace Connelly; one sister, Michelle C. Lovitte (Shayne); niece, Rachael Lovitte; cousins, aunts and uncles, and many special friends.
The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Richard Anthony Ward, Dale Houseknecht, Brian Clark, Jacob Pownall, Patrick O'Connor, Daniel Smalling, Chad Cooper, and Matt Welch.
