DeLois Dossett McCrary – born October 18, 1923, lifelong resident of Whistler and Eight Mile, AL, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. She was the last surviving and youngest child of the 12 children of the late Mary and John P. Dossett of Whistler. The 10 girls and 2 boys left a strong and honorable legacy in church, education, and community. She is survived by her husband of almost 71 years, Raymond G. McCrary; four children: Janet Biggs (Steve), Becky Middleton (Gary), Ray McCrary, Jr. (Donna), and Lee Anne Jackson (Robbie); 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Tommy Hahn; numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Mrs. McCrary was a long-time member of Myers Memorial Baptist Church and recent member of Shadowlawn Baptist Church in Eight Mile. She faithfully served her Lord throughout the years by teaching Sunday School and participating in missions projects through WMU. She was a committed prayer warrior and started each day praying through her prayer list and thankfully highlighting answered prayers. She was a generous giver and had the gift of hospitality. Anyone and everyone was welcomed at her table. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Gary Middleton and Rev. Derrall Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 18, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Indian Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Biggs, Keith Middleton, Adam Middleton, Josh Hammons, Blake McCrary, Jeremy Doggette, and Jason Thomas.
