Al was married to Deborah Keith Payne and died on their 52nd wedding anniversary. Al was an active member of the Semmes Community for 50 years. Al was known by many in the community as Coach Payne. Al was a lover of football and baseball, and enjoyed coaching – but loved being a positive impact on players more. Al was a member of the Mobile Mystics for 17 years. Al had loved Mardi Gras his entire life, and joining the Mystics and riding their parade route was a dream come true.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Leroy Payne, Sr.; mother, Shirley Lee Payne; sisters, Diane Chestang and Kay Seals; nephew, Bubba Chestang; and grandson, Joshua Parker.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Keith Payne; son, Craige (Angela) Payne; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Parker; grandsons, Tyler (Lauren) Payne, Nicholas Payne, and Colby (Allie) McSpadden; and great-grandchildren, Garrett and Sofia Payne, and Brooks and Miley McSpadden.
Acting as pallbearers will be Tyler Payne, Colby McSpadden, Nick Payne, Tracy Backlin, Chris Seals, Tim Smith, Danny Philips, and Tripp Dukes.
A visitation for Al will be held Friday, June 28, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Radney Funeral Home 1200 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, AL 36571, followed by a funeral service from 11:30 AM . Interment will be held in Valhalla Memorial Gardens, Semmes, AL.
