Frederick Paul Berry of Westchester/ Santa Monica passed away peacefully in the presence of his immediate family at 5pm on Sunday, May 22, 2022. He had been in St. John’s Hospital for two weeks facing deteriorating health conditions.
Fred was the oldest of four siblings from his parents Everette Francis and Rose Berry of Waukegan Illinois. His sister Barbara lives with her husband in Arizona, and his youngest brother Tom lives in Nevada. Their other brother Bob had lived in Illinois and had passed away.
Right out of high school, he joined the Air Force and after spending a few years in Europe, he signed on with Gilfillan Corporation, who sent him to the far east as their engineer in the field, responsible for the upkeep and staff training for the many locations they had throughout the far east in Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. Fred met his wife of sixty years, Aecha Cecelia in Osan, Korea in 1960 when he worked as a radar engineer for Gilfillan. Living in Daegu, Korea; Fred and Aecha started a family of two sons and a daughter- Cliften Peter, Ronald James, and Frances Elizabeth. In 1974 they moved their young family to Southern California where ITT Gilfillan was based, taking up residence in Santa Monica. All three children graduated high school in the Santa Monica school system, each pursuing different colleges afterward. In 2004, Fred and Aecha moved to their current home in Westchester after the untimely passing of their daughter Frances.
Fred is survived by his wife Aecha, sons Cliften and Ronald, his sister Barbara, brother Tom, many nieces and nephews and all their families, and his own grandchildren from Cliften, Rowan Kai and Amber Mahina.
The family is planning a private celebration and scattering of his remains.
