He was born in Norfolk, NE. His parents were Dallas Eugene Zurcher and Winnifred Edith Kaufman who have both preceded him in death. He grew up in Crofton, NE. He was the oldest of five boys. He graduated from Crofton High School in 1959. After high school, he worked at a small town newspaper in Hartington, NE.
His whole family moved to the Los Angeles area in 1962, where upon they lived in Culver City. At that time, he began to work at the Evening Outlook newspaper in Santa Monica. It was there that he met his future wife, Laurie Kay Fitton, who worked in the bookkeeping dept. They were married in May 1972. They continued to live in Culver City where they had two children: Dallas Eugene Zurcher, III and Laurene May Zurcher.
In 1990, the newspaper had been sold and he decided to move on. Dallas and Laurie bought a carpet cleaning business where he was owner/operator and Laurie took over the business until the end of business. It was based in the Westchester/West LA area. In 2013, Dallas suffered a heart attack but continued with the business. In 2018, again he suffered a setback with a minor stroke which forced him into retirement. Dallas and Laurie continued with traveling to Las Vegas and also visits to their children’s families.
They survived the pandemic, which curtailed their travel for a time. All went well until Dallas started to have further medical problems which developed into cancer and eventually his death. Dallas is survived by his loving wife, Laurie, son Dallas III with 4 children, (3 grandsons: Dallas IV (Dale)), Anthony, Alex, and 1 granddaughter - Kayleigh. Laurene with 2 children (2 grandsons: Caleb and Micah). Dallas was preceded in death by his three brothers: Edward, Frank, and Bob. His youngest brother, Tony is still living in NC. Interment will take place at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
