Phyllis M. Riggs began her life traveling as an Air Force daughter. After seeing many parts of the world, and living in several countries including Japan and Germany, she eventually settled in Santa Clara and later started a family there. She began helping students at Mission College’s Admissions and Records department in 1976, just one year after the college was formed, and she remained faithful to that service throughout her life. She had just retired in January of 2022, after over 40 years of devoted service to all of the students of Mission College.
Phyllis will be remembered for having a kindhearted and generous personality, always putting other people's needs ahead of her own. We will miss her smile, laugh, and love of life and nature. She brought so much joy to everyone around her. She especially loved every second she got to spend with her grandson, two granddaughters, her great niece, and great nephew. The time that she was in our lives was truly a blessing, and we know that she will always be smiling down on us all with love.
Phyllis is missed by her son Keith (and Kim), her son Jacob; her brother Harry Jr. (and Bonnie), her sister Lois (and Jeff); her 3 grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; her many cousins; as well as other family on the East Coast; and countless others who knew her in Santa Clara over the past 50 years.
A visitation for Phyllis will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Rosary at 6:00 PM at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95050. A funeral service will be on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM, also at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary; interment to immediately follow at 12:00 PM at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St, Santa Clara, CA 95050.
