Matthew Raymond Green crossed over to heaven on August 18, 2016 after dealing with life changing side effects from a head injury while a Senior at Archbishop Mitty High School in 1972. Matthew was already part of the Mitty 1971 Basketball Hall of Fame, but wanted to play football as well. At this time several colleges were recruiting him for either basketball or football. All of those dreams ended after repeated hits to his head as his helmet broke during a long football scrimmage in 1972. As a result of the head injury, he developed a frontal lobe cyst in the exact area of football head injury according to the local head trauma specialists/neurologists. Unfortunately, this triggered a seizure as he passed out and drowned at the Statue of St. Clare reflective pond on May 17, 1977.
Prior to the accidental drowning, Matthew had a promising future ahead as a Business major at San Jose State University. He also was a sales manager at the old Breuner’s Furniture store in Campbell. He had also shared with his parents that he had planned to marry his girlfriend, Joan after their college graduation. Matthew graduated from the old St. Joseph Elementary and Middle School in San Jose, CA and a 1973 graduate of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, CA. After two years in the local hospital, Matthew returned home to his family in Santa Clara. Both of his amazing parents, Richard and Pauline Green cared for Matthew along with many Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists over the many years. Matthew attended the Skill Plus Program in Santa Clara where his devoted mother, Pauline Green was on the board. Both Richard and Pauline started a “Parents helping Parents” in 1978.
Matthew was loved by his family and many friends, including the local fire fighters who would stop by to spend some time helping Matthew learn to stand and walk again. Matthew is the son of Richard Green (deceased April 2015) and Pauline Green (now a resident of Our Lady of Fatima in Saratoga, CA) Matthew was also the brother of Daniel Green (deceased June 2004). He is survived by his mother, Pauline Green. Sister, Mary J. Green-Blevins, brother in-law Howard E. Blevins, niece, Juliane Blevins, nephew Thomas Blevins of Campbell, CA.
