Antonio and Maria were married in May of 1963 and for the next 60 years resided in the Bay Area where they raised their children. Maria enjoyed working at Hewlett Packard for over 25 years and always took great pride in her work. Never losing her connection to Portugal, there were several family vacations “back home” throughout the years.
Weekends were spent cheering on her children at their soccer games where she would always be in attendance. Later in life she could be seen roaming the sidelines cheering on her grandchildren with the same dedication and passion. Win or lose, when you walked off the field, you were greeted with a hug and a kiss.
Family was the cornerstone of Maria’s life. Maria took great pride in the relationships forged with her extended family. Relationships built on love and trust for one another. Holidays were always spent together. Maria hosted “Thanksgiving Dinner” for over 50 years.
Maria was a loving, kind and generous soul. She was always greeting people with a smile and a hug. She deeply loved those around her and we were all blessed to be touched by such an angel. Our lives and Thanksgiving will never be the same.
Maria is survived by her beloved husband Antonio Mello, children, Joseph Mello and Joanne Bettencourt, grandchildren, Isabella Bettencourt, Jaxson Bettencourt, Sofia Mello and Niko Mello, brother, Joe Simas, sisters, Connie Mintegui and Fernanda Trifilo , 12 nephews and nieces and several great nephews and great nieces.
Maria was predeceased by her parents Jose and Maria de Simas and brother Manuel de Simas.
