It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose Mata Valdez, a beloved son, brother and uncle, cherished friend, and forever faithful 49ers fan. Born on the 5th of March, 1954, Jose lived his life to the fullest on his own terms, for each moment, until his passing on the 20th of July, 2024.
Jose will be fondly remembered for his stubborn yet charming persona, his playful humor, and his unyieldingly big heart. He was loving, generous, and full of life, often filling every room with laughter and joy. He taught those around him the virtue of patience, often reminding them to be present in every moment and to live life for yourself.
Among his many thrills in life, Jose was most proud of his nieces and nephews and of securing his 49er season tickets at Levi’s Stadium. His deep love for the team was infectious, making him the life of every game day. His legacy is indeed a red and gold blooded one, fueled by his passion for kicking back and watching the games, water bottle in hand, cheering on his favorite team.
Jose, better known to many as Uncle Joe, was a tremendously cherished uncle. He is survived by his sister Susie Vega, nieces Jessica Torres and Melinda Vega, nephews Merced and Mark Vega and Brian Valdez, along with their respective families. His commitment to being the best uncle he could possible be was unwavering, and his love and generosity will forever be etched in his loved ones hearts.
The family will hold a viewing for Jose on the 8th of August, 2024 5pm -9pm, with a rosary from 6pm-7pm at 466 N Winchester Blvd. A mass will take place at Our Lady of Peace Church the following morning, August 9th at 9:30am. Reception will be held at The Family Church at 99 North Bascom San Jose, CA 95128 starting at 11:30-4pm.
We invite all who knew Jose to join us in commemorating his life and cherishing our memories of him. He touched many lives with his charming spirit and will be greatly missed.
