Jessie Mae Overton Law passed June 30, 2011. Born and raised in Oxford, N.C., as a young adult she moved to Washington, D.C. and was employed by the FBI. She married Richard Law in 1947, made a home in Maryland and started raising their family of 3 children. The family moved to San Jose, California, in 1969. A loving wife and mother, Jessie became active in Job’s Daughters in 1970 where her sweet nature was shared with many through the early 2000s. She was also a member of OES Chapter 31. Caring for her husband Richard until he passed in 2007 she then braved her own health issues with grace and the help of family and blessed caregivers. The one defining description for those whose path crossed with Jessie’s was “sweet”, and she was much loved, especially by Richard with whom she is now reunited.
She is survived by daughters Geraldine Oliver and Sandra Carter, son Steven Law, son-in-law Nephty Carter, sisters Rowena Wheeler, Jennie Strickland, Josephine Snyder, Mildred Newton and Sue Link, brothers Willie Overton, Shirley Overton and Roy Overton, many nieces and nephews, and preceded in death by sisters Madeline Vines, Emma Lou Newton and brother John Overton.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Patrick and Debra Hall, owners of Kimberly Elder Kare Kottage and to Jessie’s “guardian angels on earth”, her devoted caregivers Lily, Terry, Den and James. Thank you for taking such special and loving care of our sweet mother.
A memorial service is scheduled Saturday, July 23, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at the Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara, California.
