She dearly loved her family and friends. She was so loved by all that came in contact with her. To know her was to love her. We feel so fortunate to have had Edith in our lives and will always remember her sweet, sweet smile.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Clarence Silva. Edith is survived by her daughter and son-in-law (or son as she always called him), Ginger and Rick Mortensen, nephews Steve Toste, Michael John Toste, and Dennis Toste.
At the heart of Edith's life was her religious faith. A lifelong Catholic, she followed her sense of vocation by cultivating a life of generous service grounded in family, friends, and her faith community. Edith had an uncanny knack of listening to and helping people who were in the midst of challenging moments and providing them with the welcome, support, and encouragement they needed.
Edith was born and raised in East Providence, Rhode Island. When she was 15 she met Clarence through mutual family friends and two years later, in 1937, they were married. In 1950 they moved to San Jose to join Clarence's family who had moved to California the previous year. It was in San Jose that they spent the rest of their lives raising a family and enjoying many wonderful times with friends and family.
A vigil service and Rosary will be held at Lima Family Mortuary on December 5th at 6:00pm, 466 N. Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA. A funeral Mass will be held at St John Vianney Church on December 6th at 11:00am, 4600 Hyland Ave, San Jose, CA.
