Rene was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on June 8th, 1947 to Samuel and Teresa Cuevas. As a young child his family moved to Bedford- Stuyvesant, Brooklyn where he began to go by the name, Reno. Little Reno was fearless, never afraid to back down from a fight - the bigger, the better! He’d tell you he was from the mean streets of Brooklyn - top of the food chain! His temper was his trademark but he was also the sweetest, kindest, lovable man who wanted nothing more than to have a good laugh with you. He was a big kid, a goof ball and always the life of the party.
In 1968, while attending college to study Architecture, he was drafted to the Army; then told he would be joining the US Marine Corp. After surviving boot camp in Camp Lejeune, NC, he joined the USMC 7th Engineer Battalion. As a combat engineer, Reno swept roads for mines and booby traps, provided engineering support and designed the first three legged watch tower, an accomplishment he was very proud of.
After finishing his tour in 1969, he returned to Brooklyn and decided that working with his hands was his calling. He became a General Contractor, renovating many homes. His passion was designing, building, remodeling and creating something spectacular.
He reconnected with a beautiful young girl named Mary whom he had met in PR when he was 16. They were married in 1973 and had two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Victoria. He was a proud, loving husband and father. Later in life, he became a fur-papa to his second set of girls, Zuki and Lolita, his constant lap companions.
Everything he ever did in his life, was for his girls.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, Mary; daughters Michelle & Victoria, son-in-laws Jeff and Cody; sister Doris, nephew Jack his wife Gina and daughters, Veronica & Christina; niece Rebecca and her husband Matt and son Vincent (Vincenzo!)
