Marilyn Anderson Galt ("Lynn"), born Marilyn Joanne Anderson to parents John Douglas and Marion Alice Anderson on March 13, 1933, went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2016. She was visiting family in San Antonio, Texas, preparing to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of her wedding to Hugh Galt, Jr. Lynn grew up in Detroit, Michigan, graduating from Cass Technical High School with an emphasis on art. She attended Michigan State University where she met Hugh while both worked on The Wolverine, the school's annual, she as the art director and he as the photographer. They married on September 11, 1954, and, shortly after Hugh obtained his Master's Degree, moved to Long Beach, California, arriving on July 16, 1955 – the day before the grand opening of Disneyland. The Galts moved to Tustin in 1961 where they have lived ever since. They joined the First United Presbyterian Church of Santa Ana (now known as Trinity United Presbyterian Church) and were part of the congregation when it moved to its present location at Prospect and 17th Street. The church was central to her life. Lynn and Hugh took on many leadership and service roles at the church, including teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, supporting the Church's library, assisting with the English language program, serving as Deacon and Elder and, for fifty-five years participating in the fellowship of "King's Class". Lynn was a member of the building committee that designed the iconic Sanctuary which has graced the corner for 45 years. After marrying, Lynn withdrew from Michigan State to support Hugh in graduate school and two years later they began their family with the birth of twins Doug and Jeff. Joni and Rob followed a few years later which prompted the move from their starter home in Long Beach to their present home in Tustin. As her children grew, she returned to college and, in 1974, earned her B.A. degree from California State University, Fullerton. Her course work included interior design and she turned her artistic ability and interior design knowledge into a successful career. Lynn was active in philanthropic and community organizations. She was a life member of the Assistance League of Santa Ana, a long-time member of PEO, board member of the Orange County Master Chorale, member of Chapman University Town & Gown, and patron of Chapman University and Hillsdale College. Always eager to learn, Lynn enjoyed reading all types of books. She relished a great conversation, especially when differing opinions were in play. She loved writing letters and cards, always in the most beautiful handwriting. For her, a letter was a both a communication device and a work of art. She often relaxed by playing the piano. But no description of Lynn’s interests would be complete without reference to the game of Bridge – Contract and Duplicate. She loved the intellectual challenge and social interaction. With groups of friends, she formed bridge clubs that lasted decades. She achieved the rank of Club Master of the America Bridge League having been awarded more than fifty Master Points. Lynn and Hugh became avid travelers. In their annual trips to Hawaii and frequent trips to Scotland, Lynn marveled at the beauty of God's creation. During their dozens of cruises, Lynn was adept at making new friends. Lynn is survived by her husband Hugh; her brother John Charles Anderson and his wife Kim; her children and their spouses, Hugh Douglas Galt and Dennis Field Galt, Jeffery Scott and Jana Brown Galt, Joanne Galt and John Arne Schroeder, and Robert Stuart Galt; her grandchildren and spouses, Marissa Galt and Robert Walton Bondurant, Sarah Louise Schroeder, Jeffery Chandler and Sarah Tarvin Galt, Evan Douglas Galt, Briana Galt and Scott Robert Brandt, and Jeannette Lynn Schroeder; her great-grandchildren, Claire Michele and Alice Pauline Bondurant, and Jack Douglas Galt; and a multitude of friends. Interment will be at Fairhaven Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service in celebration of Lynn’s life will be held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church on Friday, September 23rd, at 1:00 PM. Gifts in lieu of flowers may be given to Hillsdale College Chapel Fund in Memory of Lynn Galt, 33 East College Street, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242.
