It is with great sadness that the O'Connell family announces the passing of Colin O’Connell. He is survived by his mother, Carol, his 3 children, Shayla, Augusta and Jack, his sister Tracey, his younger brother Brandon, his younger sisters Erica, Elizabeth and Ceara, his grandson Tristan, his nephew Caleb and his longtime partner and fiancé, Heather. He is also survived by a very large extended family on both coasts and several friends whom he called family. Colin passed away at 6:04 pm on Wednesday November 15th, with his sister Tracey, and his fiancé Heather by his side. In his final moments, he was also surrounded by his mother, his aunt Laurie and cousin Katie, and many caring medical professionals.
Colin lived an extraordinary life, with a great appetite for experiencing the fullness of every possible moment. Whether surfing off the coast of Belize, imitating a llama or Jim Carey, immersing himself in various kinds of music, talking endlessly about his latest great story, being MacGyver with the latest fix-it job, breathing in the beach with his loved ones or building an incredible business network to support his family, Colin threw himself wholly into every endeavor. His enthusiasm for, and experience with, the vagaries of life both lifted and inspired all who were lucky enough to spend time with him. He loved nature and the wild outdoors, but found a place in the suburbs of Southern California to be present for those he loved and to build a future. He was an incredible tipper, as he believed the working man deserved a break and an act of random kindness. Colin loved his family and extended family deeply, and fought for them any way he could. His hard won wisdom was shared freely, and often with laughter, to the benefit of all he met. Many were touched by his love and his example, and at least a few have shared stories of how he saved his/her life. His loss will be felt deeply by all, even those who knew him for a brief period of time.
In the spirit of his absolute love of storytelling, we encourage you to share your memories of Colin here. It will, in a way, give us all a little more time with him, and will be something that will be cherished by all who knew him.
