Anthony “Tony” Athres Daniel, 88, died on Sunday, March 8, 2015 in Winter Springs, Florida. Tony was born to Ben and Laura “Addie” Daniel on November 23, 1926 in Guntersville, Alabama. He is survived by his sisters, Gloice Lusk of Guntersville and Frauline Lang of Albertville. Tony is also survived by his son Alan Daniel and daughter-in-law, Cindy Daniel, of Winter Springs, Florida; grandchildren, Ashley Swander (Timothy Swander) of Winter Springs, Florida, and Alex Daniel of Orlando, Florida; and great grandchildren, Landon and Shelby Swander. He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Hensen, and brothers Franklin Daniel and Harden Daniel. Tony attended Guntersville High School and went on to Jacksonville State after serving in the Army Air Force during World War II. Tony continued his education by receiving his Masters from Vanderbilt University. Having a love of knowledge, Tony became a public school teacher and retired after 35 years in the classroom. In addition to teaching, he also coached football and mentored the youth in his community. Tony was a man of strong faith that enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a devoted family man that spent almost all of his free time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His legacy will always live on in our hearts and in our memories. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Baldwin Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel. Visitation will begin a 1:00 p.m. followed by a service at 1:30.
