THE EARTH HAS LOST AN ANGEL. Joan S. Smith, age 87, passed peacefully at Oakmonte Assisted Living on August 12, 2023, in Lake Mary, Florida. Cherished wife and lifetime sweetheart of the late Lynn Smith (2018). Deeply loved mother to Dianna (Locke), Shelley (Nathan) and Rick (late Laura). Beloved Nana to Katie, Lauren (Rick), Layne, Ashton (Lelia), Hunter (Talya), and great-granddaughter Isabel Joan.
Joan was a kind-hearted, sweet, and thoughtful person. She had a generous spirit, loving nature, and wonderful sense of humor. She attended Secretarial School in Toronto, Canada and worked as an administrator until retirement. Throughout her life, she was a devoted volunteer with several organizations, especially those for seniors or the sick. She was a woman of faith and grace. She loved her extended family at the United Methodist Church in Welland, Ontario, Canada where she continued her volunteer work post-retirement. Her passion was baking, which she shared with her community often. She loved bingo, creating photo albums and crosswords. She was loved by all for her funny and engaging story-telling and everyone she met was her friend. She travelled and moved extensively with her husband and saw a good part of the world. She and her husband had “A Love Story” like no other. Her greatest gift will be the legacy of love she left her family, which will be cherished forever.
“A key stone has fallen from the foundation of our family, but our hearts are at peace knowing she is finally pain free and Heaven has gained an Angel. She will be dearly missed.” A private Celebration of Life will be held by her Lake Mary family. Joan will later join the love of her life in a unity interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Welland, Ontario. If desired, memorial donations to the American Heart or Arthritis Foundation would be appreciated.
